    Question Dendrobium question~

    Hello everyone!
I know that dendrobiums are deciduous so I expect to see them drop leaves at certain times. I don't have a lot of experience with them yet so I'm wondering what I'm seeing is normal. Is it typical for the cane to drop the leaves while in bloom? It has new growth, is in bloom and overall a very healthy plant.
Also, with so many types of dendrobiums, it gets confusing. What are the 'cane type' called? Do they have their own sub-group?

    Thanks so much

I'd say a picture would be of great help to know what Dendrobium we're talking about.

Not all dendrobiums are deciduous. In fact, I 'd guess there are less that are, than the number that are of deciduous types.

The sub groups are referred to as 'Sections'. Here is a link to American Orchid Society discussion on Dendrobium Sections:

Sounds like the orchid is doing OK. Leaves do have a shelf life and do drop off for no reason other than age of leaf.

Thanks Harvey! I was talking about my Den. Getting Lipstick, however, I've noticed the same thing with my Den. Burana's as well.

I don't know that I can say. I am sure others with more dendrobium experience than I can chime in.

May be you referring to hard cane dendro which they seldom dropped off the leaves such as D. phlaenopsis,D. bigibbum hybrids and soft cane Den such as nobile, tortile hybrids, most of them are deciduous.
