Orchids are epiphytes, lithophytes and terrestrial. This is a terrestrial. Most likely it is Arundina graminifolia.

I agree that Arundina graminifolia is the most likely candidate. This orchid is native to a much of tropical and sub-tropical Asia, including Malaysia, and has been spread by man to many Pacific and Caribbean islands, Central America, and more. Commonly called bamboo orchid.

Yes, most probably Arundina graminifolia, Next time you travel up to the Cameron Highlands look out for hordes of them growing by the roadside and open hill slopes from around 2000 feet and above. Except for the plants that look like reeds the flowers are very cattleya-like. To really see plenty of them take the Simpang Pulai- Cameron Highlands road instead of the old road from Tapah ( the one normally taken by KL folks when travelling to Cameron).
here are some pictures taken of an area near the town of Tanah Rata, cleared of the original forest and marked for development. This 4-5 acre piece of hill slope was cleared about 10 years ago and left undeveloped and has been taken over completely by a few bushes and tons of Arundina. This orchid seems to be only wild thing that seems to benefit from the rapacious deeds of man.
