Default Mini orchid in glass airplant terrarium

Hi everyone! I started to branch out beyond NOID phals that I've inherited over the years and based on space and needs, have started to get into mini orchids. -, I saw a photo of a miniature orchid, possibly Amesiella Monticola, inside of an airplant glass terrarium...you know the ones, the glass bulbs shaped like a teardrop.

I'm curious, have any of you grown an orchid in one of these glass bulbs? Do you think this setup could work?

It's actually an excellent idea, as it allows you to create a "micro climate" for each type of plant. At one of my speaking engagements, I met a guy who grows a lot of cool-growing miniatures like lepanthes that way, using a small clump of sphagnum as the medium.

I picked up cheap cylindrical vases at my local grocery store, and have grown a variety of plants in them, both in sphagnum and mounted on cork bark.

Welcome to the forum! One of the vendors that sells orchids at shows local to me carries those and swears by them. Always has some on display with a wide variety of orchids growing in them. Great for small spaces like washrooms, kitchens etc. He does caution against putting them in direct sun.

Thanks for the info & welcome raybark & Chris! I think the is the encouragement I need to start experimenting with different setups. I have a nice lowlight room I can hang them in, too. I saw a photo of someone using one of these glass bulbs in a mudroom and the orchid was sitting on top of sphagnum, sounds like a plan! Not sure why there aren't more photos of this. Will update the thread if anything good (or bad) happens
