    Default humidity. min/max

i have mostly dendrobiums and phals with a few other species as well. i used to have trouble getting adequate humidity when temperatures were over about 18c. i bought a small humidifier which is perfectly adequate for my 4 x 2m polytunnel. i havent quite got the hang of regulating the humidity yet. what is the best % bearing in mind i have a fairly mixed collection and should i think about dividing into groups.? i'm getting a greenhouse, next month i hope and thought about hot intermediate and cold. thoughts on this please.

Most Den.'s are seasonally wet, rain forest or high altitude plants so I would think your min would be 60% but I'd like to here replies from others with more knowledge. Very interested in hearing their opinions.

Humidity for most of the orchids should be >50-60%. Higher the better. You could attach a thermostat and regulate the humidity.

I have grown in greenhouses for about 40 years, and found that 50% is a good minimum. At one point, I thought that there was no such thing as a maximum, but have rethought that - transpiration can be reduced at saturation, and that is, after all, what drives growth - so prefer to keep a maximum of about 75%-80%.

many thanks all. i do have 3 thermometers with humidity reading also. at present the temps are 20- 24.with humidity up to 90+. temps do go up to 30-35 when sun is full out with humidity between 40-70, depending which part of poly tunnel. am learning to regulate humidity and now i know mini/max it will make it much easier for me. does this basically apply to all orchids or just certain ones.
