I am so happy that my oncidium finally flowered!
I've been experimenting with mounted orchids, this one is mounted on cork, on a hygrolon piece with moss on top. It has a hygrolon "wick" attached to the piece of hygrolon that sits on the cork; the wick goes in a jar.
I water it every day in the morning by drenching the roots and sometimes when it's very hot outside (this summer we have 36 degrees C every day since June) I also fill the jar, which is totally empty by the afternoon.
I am keeping it now on my balcony (NE orientation), it gets a bit of direct sun in the morning.
In the winter I had it indoors on a NE window, and watered (almost) every morning.
It finally flowered when I started using water from my aquarium where I also have some plants that receive fertilizer once every 2 weeks and a few fish; I'm guessing it likes the fish waste.
Nice! Well worth the effort! I'll be back to using aquarium water very soon. Good for the fish too because then I don't forget to do those water changes.
