The orchid collectors are a special case of not confusing the orchid with tomato, hemp or I don't know what vegetable used in the food.
Many do not even consider the spectrum of light used. I have done several experiments related to the influence of the light spectrum in the growth of some orchids and even though I am not believed I am very convinced that the spectrum is essential.

Thankyou I have taken all the advice onboard and have ordered a new lamp which I hope will be suitable as well as raising some of my orchids closer to existing lights

This feedback is tragicomic and I do not want to waste the time.
My suggestion is, as Ray says, to lower the light to about 12"-18" from the plants and buy some white LEDs. Try to make a combination of warm white (3000-3500)K, 445 and 660, you can use between 2.5 and 25 watts per square foot (depending on the plants, quality of LEDs and natural light received from outside).
    Good luck.
