    Default Air Conditioning!!!

    Hi everyone-
I haven't posted here in a whle, because I've been very busy. But anyway, My parents have decided to install air conditioning in the upper floor of our house where I grow my orchids (and we have a window unit downstairs, so I can't move them down there). So my question is- is the AC going to kill my orchids with the cold this summer? I hope not!!!

It depends on what they are, and how cold you get the room. Many orchids don't want high daytime temps - most enjoy the same temps we enjoy, but tell us what you have. There probably aren't many that would want to be directly in front, with all that cold air blasting on them.

I hope you got Masdevallias, Draculas, and Restripias!
Just kidding. But these do like it cool.
I would just keep them away from direct ac air.

You can also get a few grow lights and put around the orchids, they can give off quite a bit of heat to combat the "conditioned" air. Watch out for low humidity with air conditioners!

even when I blast my AC for personal comfort in the heat of summer, the humidity rarely falls below 45%...and I never get the humidity even that high during the winter months. just make sure the cold air doesn't blast directly on them. if you really need to you can always add a humidifier.

Thanks for all the info, guys! I don't think the temps will get too low, but I think I will have to provide some form of alternate humidity- I have two phals and a brassia, and the phals seem to like it on the humid side so they won't dry out... we'll see how it goes! Thanx again
