    Unhappy This sucks (rant)

Well after trying to rescue the poor rootless plant I have mentioned before I decided to find some nice healthy plants to grow also. I found a place online since my local grower only offers plants at retail prices. ($55.00 for a single spike Phal.) Although I own an online based retail store I’m not a fan of online buying. I like to pay and walk out with my items. However, I figured for the savings I would try to learn to have a little patience. I ordered a few plants on Tuesday the 22nd and it wasn’t until I paid that I realized that they only ship on Mondays, with my patience that would have been a deal breaker. But, I figured what’s done is done so just wait. Well the next Wednesday I emailed them to find out if the order had gone out, mainly to find out the progress but also because we were still having high temps and I didn’t want them to sit out on the porch too long. I was informed that they went out Tuesday and should arrive USPS in about 3 to 4 days. Friday came no plants, Saturday came no plants, Now they would have to sit around the Post Office until Tuesday (holiday). Well, Tuesday no plants. That evening I emailed the store about this problem. No response Wednesday. This morning I contacted them again via email and fax. A rep. emailed me back stating that the package had been delivered last Thursday, and sent me the tracking number. Sure enough it was recorded to have been delivered on Thursday of last week. So I geared up and headed to the P.O.. The carrier quickly informed me that if it shows delivered he must have delivered it, end of story. Well we have a history of him leaving slips in our box to pick up a package at the P.O. because we were not home when he tried to deliver it. Funny thing is we both work for home and was here every time. Too lazy to get out of his truck. Well he gave me a number to report it stolen. Long story shortened J I ended up talking to the postal inspectors office for this area and still their outlook was oh well, and it took talking to 6 people to even get a sorry out of someone. At one point I was being treated like it was my fault. So there go the money and my trust in ordering products online.

    wow, thats terrible.

i'm going through something simmilar, but its not quite as bad (yet, knock on wood). last wednesday i ordered a bunch of orchids for a similar reason, only to find out that they only ship on mon and tues (which was never mentioned until the order was final). i called, to make sure that would work, since i had ordered a plant "in bud," and they said that it would go out on monday and it would still be in bud and it would be fine.

then monday was laborday or some such, so it went out on tuesday. but they never emailed me to let me know it shipped, so finally on wednesday (a week after i ordered it) i called (again), to ask what was up. they tracked down my order and said it had gone out on tuesday and should be here tomorrow. i've been watching the door pretty much since noon, and now its almost 9pm, and no package. i am dreading a box full of dead orchids even more than i am dreading the hastle of having to try to get them replaced/refunded.

    Fxman,

If you never received the plant, then the grower should make good on your purchase. They should either replace the plant or refund your money. If you paid by credit card, you can refuse the charge, in that you never received the shipment.

Most reputable growers will ship a 2-day method, sometimes 3-day, if weather isn't too hot or too cold. That's why most will wait and ship on a Mon or Tues. No one wants the plant sitting somewhere over the weekend. In extreme weather, I've overnighted in a bad cold spell and I'll have them hold it at the facility for me to pick up so it doesn't sit on a cold truck all day.

This is not pleasant. It's important to work with reputable nurseries exactly for this reason. You can request sources on this forum, but we don't post openly about vendors. You'd need to invite members to Private Message aka PM you about their thoughts on good places to shop for a particular type of orchid.

There's also a site where you can rate your experience or check on comments regarding a particular nursery:

    Sorry for your trouble!

Well not that it makes things better, but at least you know your not alone. Was it a auction or from a retailer. If it was from a retailer hopefully they sent one that was budding this week and not the same one from last week. This morning before this all went down I received 3 emails from the store. The last one stated to let them know what happened, which I did via email. Well 8 hours later I haven't received a reply. I don't blame them they sgipped the product as promised. But as a retailer my self I would at least offer some sort of compensation. That how you build loyal customers. It was just only about $25.00 worth of plants. And that was 3-4 Plants. Good luck with that. I think your situation will be fine.

    Hey Piper,
Well I'm new to this whole thing so I had no idea. I believe they processed it all as expected. It would be nice if they did compensate me in some way but in reality it's not there fault. That said I probably wouldn't order there again. Just from the lack of customer service aspect. I did post a request for some vendors and only got one response from Diane. She gave me a few options. If you have any suggestions please forward me an IM
    Thanks

Fxman, I'm really sorry to hear of your disappointing initiation into the world of online orchid ordering.

All of my plants have arrived after online orders; I had one terrible experience (PM for the nursery's name) but all of the others were either satisfactory or great. You do have to learn the ropes--like the shipping on Mondays thing. And delivery is a wildcard--I will not bother anymore in very cold weather or very hot weather. And I have found that even the best growers seem to lack something in the communication department--understaffed I would guess.

I hope this works out for you; it sounds infuriating!

sorry for coming into your thread and complaining about my own problems, i guess i really needed to get that off my chest.. its been bothering me all day..

since you asked, its a nursery, and its a paph they said would stay in bud for a long time. they also said they had a few, so i'm *trying* not to worry about it. you just went and posted my exact worst fear, is all :P

i'm really in the exact same boat as you; this is the first time i've ever ordered a live plant over the net...its pretty stressful! xP

anyway, i really hope things work out for you, somehow. i would totally flip out if i were in that possition. :\
