    Post Dendrobium Aussie Charm

To everybody but in particular to Bench 72.

I' ve seen a lot of great pics of plants on the personal site mentioned by bench 72, but I felt madly in love with a particular plant Dendrobium Aussie Charm, is the most elegant, fine flower. I want it I want I want it
I didn' t really found many informations (care ecc.). But the biggest problem...I cannot find it!!! I did check a couples of retailers but they didn' t have it and my guess is that is almost impossible to get sendings out of Australia.Well..... I will prefer to go and visit myself...I miss Sidney.
But back to my problems....I live in Italy and I have really trouble to get specific plants, same with some neofitias I wanted.
Can somebody help me with some tips on Europe....and more informations on the Dendrobium Aussie Charm. Thank you

    Ciaooo

    Hi Breeze,

There have been a lot of hybridizing done within the Australian Dendrobiums... unfortunately, not too many of them ever find their way overseas. There are some places that export out of Australia... but unfortunately the costs starts to go up...

I do know there are a lot of Dendrobium kingianum species floating around in Europe and colour wise, there is a beautiful variety which is all white with a pink lip similar to the Dend Aussie Charm cross I've posted... they are called var. silcockii... different shape though, but you can't beat Dend kingianum for scent.

also, if you like the shape... look for another species called Dendrobium falcorostrum. This has more of the shape of the Aussie Charm cross... and again a most wonderful scent.

Of course, if you are coming to Australia... well, you can have a division of the plant... so you best start saving up for that holiday

By the way, the plant won Novice section of the night two months ago and here is what the flowers look like with a couple more open...

Thanks for posting the picture, I tried to find it on the net and failed. It is beautiful, looks like porcelain. I wonder if it would grow in an air conditioned home in the California desert?

this cross was registered in 1987 and it is a cross of Dendrobium Ellen X Dendrobium Gillian Leaney. It would be about 75% kingianum

If you use this link it should come up,but I found it listed in Dendrobium Orchids of Australia by Walter T. Upton, published by Houghton Mifflin Australia , ISBN O 867700 052 1

Thanx for the anwers...and Bench 72 for your tips about different types I could try instead. And of course for offering a division...of your jewel (didn' t know was yours).
That' s a serious motivation to start saving for an holyday. Last time I' ve been in North Bondi for 3 month and that place is a dream I would raccomend it to anybody .

I think the kingianum could be a nice alternative me since I m a scent freak. But still, I don't want to be negative but I doubt I will be able to find anything like this in Italy.... still looking for the neofinetia.....

I would love to have also a little fraction of your knowledge of species and kinds.....thanks guys

    Ciao
