Louis, I tried the lysol on the plant. It hasn't changed, neither good or bad.

Would I be hurting the plants if I spray them on a regular basis with neem oil? If insects started the problem, I'm hoping that neem oil would leave a bad taste in their nasty little mouths. Or do ya'll know something better? I'm all ears! I do agree, my plants are loving it out there, but if they end up in ICU it sorta defeats the purpose!

I've used neem before. It won't do anything for heavy infestations, but if you have a few bugs (that you scrape off first) and spray repeatedly with neem (like once every 7-10 days for 3 applications), it may control the bugs. With neem, you have to watch out for sunburn--the oil will cause the plant to heat up in a hurry and fry if the light is high.

Am not a big Neem fan myself. I've tried it, and frankly have found it to be little more than fancy leaf polish. And, like Jason said, it'll intensify sunlight, especially for plants outdoors. If you're not into using chemical insecticide, there are other things you might try (hot pepper spray maybe, some others...) that might work better than neem at discouraging pests.

If the lysol really works and doesn't hurt the plant (I'm imagining chemical burns or something), that would be a really convenient bactericide / fungicide that most people keep at home.

    Hi guys,

So far nothing has spread. I've brought the encyclia in, and sat it in an eastern window. The lysol certainly hasn't hurt, and hopeful it helped. I'll treat it agin and keep you posted.

After reading ya'll posts, I decided against the neem. It's really hot here right now (low 90's) and I certainly don't want to complicate things! Everybody outside still looks okay and there was a praying mantis on my peristeria elatia (I hope he's pigging out)

I'll keep you posted and I really appeciate you both, Louis and Jason....
