Mine is constantly grousing about my orchids. He rolls his eyes and gets sarcastic when he sees the credit card statement. Even if they are free, he will say something like "you don't have enough already? How many kinds of orchids are there--you have to have one of each?"

    I ignore him.

Lately he has been worrying about them. "That one over there is getting a yellow leaf." "Did you remember to open the blinds in the bedroom?"

So I think he's coming around a little. But I still try to water when he's out, and wait until he's out of town to repot, etc. I don't exactly have his blessing, but we're doing OK if I don't rub his face in it.

Perhaps an easier hobby if you have a laid back SO, or you live by yourself!

Spousicide probably won't be necessary, but now I know who to contact--the orchid mafia.

Orchid Mafia Motto: "We'll do anything necessary to protect orchid-kind!" Payments accepted only in a previously agreed upon "plant form."

I try to involve Clyde as much as I can. He picked out the lighting for my new cattleyas and actually found some 36 inch flourescents which I needed. He made me some neat racks to fit over cafeteria type trays using those plastic boxes that cokes come to the stores in. They work great as humidity trays and he finds great stones for the bottoms of my humidity saucers. The one thing that bothers him the most is that I have to water in the kitchen sink so I try to confine it to one side of the sink. It seems that I am watering every day. He does groan when I come in with a new orchid (or 2) and when a shipment arrives. But......he also likes to show them off to his friends when they come to visit. So I am making progress. I don't hink that I need to consider spousicide after 55 years of marriage. LOL!!

Heh--my husband used to groan and gripe that he didn't want a bunch of plants in the house because "they would attract bugs"....Then once we got a few blooms he got into taking tons of pictures of them. Then he built me a big light rack so we could fill up with more! I don't know what happened because now he brings photo albums full of pictures of our 'chids to show everyone we meet. Well, they are the only 'chids we have, and everyone else shows pics of their kids around....

My husband just grins when a new Orchid shows up , he likes the plants .
I have read about men or women having a fit over the others hobby , I don't get it,unless it is breaking the bank account, if not that then it is a control thing as in you can't have that unless I say you can ... Bah!
If I had to sneak plants in and hear griping and B ing over it . I would be single.

Although he concocted the devious plan described above, I should say that my husband is actually pretty supportive of the whole orchid thing. He doesn't complain that they are slowly taking over all the south-facing windows, and he can even be persuaded to attend an orchid show now and then. As a matter of fact, he agreed to go to a show in Dallas in May on our way to visit family in Houston! Hoorah! I can't wait.
