I will divorce my wife if she wont let me build a greenhouse. Seriously.

Last time I tried to get her to go to a meeting she cried and I ended up watching something stupid on tv.

That's a tough one! Sounds like she is not into orchids...I would be careful with the ultimatum--it is NOT the way to change woman's mind.

Sake, perhaps you should spend at least as much time with the wife as you do with the 'chids. That way she might not be so threatened by them....

No need to do that. I take my water to the plants! Get yourself a small dish pan. Mine is something like 12 x 14 x 6or 8 inches deep. I put a gallon or a bit more of water in there and use it for watering. I hold the plants over it and use a little 1 cup sized container to dish out the water, let them drip a bit and put them back in place! Works like a charm.

I saw the SERIOUSLY loud and clear, Sake. LOL

Life is short, if one wants a greenhouse, then one should have a greenhouse. IMHO.

Hope you're using fresh water with each plant, and not the same water over and over...Could be a great way to spread pests and diseases...

When I was growing in the house (hate to think about the pre-greenhouse days) I would use a tray with high sides and carry the pots (why do I loathe the term "'chids" for orchids?...) to the kitchen sink. Labor intensive, but they got clean water and a good flush...

I schlepp all mine to the sink too... over 200. I use a cart (a microwave cart) to move from grow area to sink and back.

Killing off all my orchids would do nothing to cure my obsession, but would definitely make it worse because I would then have to replace them all. The wallet, cards and bank account would take an awful hit. My orchids are better left alone. My husband goes to all the orchid club meetings with me and spends part of the time at the shows with me. He helps me with setting up in house hardware and lighting for the orchids. Also, he spends more money on his hobby than I do on mine, mine just takes up more space.

I am a schlepper too -- hauling them individually to the kitchen sink and back. Although it makes me feel better to know that someone else does it too! (not to mention that I have a lot fewer to schlepp.)
