    Default Buds without sheath?

    Hey Guys,
I have a very healthy cattleya, its leading growth had a sheath when i purchased it, the spike started to grow inside of it, stopped, then the lead shot out a new growth. The new growth is now the same size as the original lead not quite mature (but has a leaf span amazingly bigger than the previous one, but psuedobulb not quite mature), with a spike coming from the middle???! As mentioned when i purchased it, the lead growth at the time, had a sheath with NO buds/spike developing in it, this one appears to be starting with the spike and no sheath?

Young plants can get confused the first couple bloomings, be patient, it'll get it's act together one of these times. Or at least that's what I hear.....

Different ones bloom differently. Some produce buds inside the sheath, while others do it outside of the sheath. With proper care, you should see flowers from the spike you mention.

It is also possible that the change in cultural environment caused the original to abort as well as the new growth to be better!

I have quite a few catts that have done the same thing. And the big jump in growth, too. I think that the plants are pushed to bloom so young by the growers, that if the first bloom gets aborted, they can really put an effort into the next growth. I have had soooo many "lopsided" plants, where they want to tip over because the old growths are puny and the new one is 2 or even 3 times the size!

I have a catt that I think is putting out a sheath. There is a little upside down shaped V green something growing slowly between the leaves. Am I correct? It is on a new growth that is larger the original spikes. If it is a sheath it is my first one.
