Red face general culture request; Stanhopeas

hello all, good to have found you. Is anyone growing Stanhopeas? I'm having some concern about winter light levels here in MA, just wondering if anyone has had success, and generally how you are handling them...any experience/tips/tricks would be appreciated

    TIA

    thank you

just visited a grower here in MA today into paphs and phrags - and seeing them has me thinking about growing a couple....

haven't found many who grow Stans around here...yet. got another greenhouse to visit in a couple weeks, private 'hobbyist' grower, see what she has to say....

thanks very much. the photos available from the Stanhopea Pages were what got me to try them...stunning, huh?

i'm beginning to get the impression i should now just watch and wait(dammitdammitdammit i don't sit still too good), spend the time observing them instead of worrying over tracking down pertinent information...most of the culture tips i've been able to find online get the info from AOS. hopefully if i'm paying attention, they'll let me know what they need.

but talking to someone who knows sure would be comforting

maybe i'll have pulled pork for lunch

Pete --I have 2 stanhopeas.Oculatum var. possibly crosea & nigroviolaceum x tigrinum. The last one hasn't bloomed or really grown much at all.The oculata blooms religiously every year.Check for posts & pics of my oculata that I posted recently. They (stanhopeas)are all shortlived flowers but wonderful.I grow in a greenhouse. I grew it hanging on a lower bench eith fairly bright light. It had 3 spks.I'm now waiting for the 3rd spk to open to end this years blooming. Each spk had 7 flowers.BTW--I live on Long Island,NY.

woot! a northerner with success! one is better than none and gives me hope. beautiful pics, Jane...and the book suggested by Persistence will help a great deal too, i'll bet

i've got two tigrinas('Predator' and 'Glory of Mexico') and a pozoi that have been repotted into baskets [rebasketed? ] just recently. root systems look excellent and active, think they'll probably be ok....

    thanks
    P
