    Unhappy Onc. Mendenhall #11

I bought this last week and the seller told me it was an Onc. Mendenhall #11 x Onc. papipio 'Mendenhall'. But it looks like the psychopsis previously posted. I'm new to this so can someone tell me the difference, besides the obvious color difference. Thanks everyone.
Sorry, didn't load pic on last post.

I think Oncidium was an old name for Psychopsis, I too noticed that some vendors still use it.

Btw, accroding to the RHS database Psychopsis Mendenhall x papilio is Psychopsis Memoria Bill Carter, not a hybrid I've heard of before.

This particular kind of onc. was recently reclassified as psychopsis -- so lots of plants will still have the old onc. tags. I don't actually know why the change, so I'll defer to the wiser members on that issue. From my standpoint -- psychopsis is MUCH cooler name.

The psychopsis recently posted was an albino--so that is the reason for the color difference.

taxonomists love taking large genera and break them down into smaller groups., based on genetic, morphological or other differences. Most Psychopsis species and hybrids have a similar color to yours. There were 5 species moved from Oncidium and put in this new genus. They all have similar leaves, flower shape and p-bulbs. Actually, I think there were six moved but one has been moved out of this genus into Psychopsiella.

Here is a pic of a normal colored Psychopsis papilio for comparison

Definitely an odd shape - is it perhaps fading away?

Diane, yes was on it's last legs, so to speak. Also resizing it distorted it some.
