Default New NOIDs followed me home.

    Any ideas on the IDs?

I have been trying to stay away from NOIDs but these two just really stood out from the crowd.

This first one appears to be an oncidium alliance type orchid.
I cant quite figure it out. It looks like a brassia with floofy petals. And I have never seen a color pattern like this before.

The second one is a Zygopetalum of some sort.
The colors on this one is not as striking, but the clean lines and simple colors are also attractive in its own right.
The flowers also have a slight scent of lavender.

Any ideas on their ID would be appreciated.

    ~John

Pretty. The first one might be some type of Miltassia. There are so many that look alike. I probably would have picked up both of these noids if the price was right. They looks so healthy!

    Cheers,

    Thanks Bruce.

I will look into miltassias and see if anything similar turns up.

    Edit:
It looks like the sepals and lip color patterns are derived from a Miltassia Charles M. Fitch:

I'm still not sure where it got the floofy/curly petals. I'm not even sure if this is even a Miltassia x Miltassia hybrid.

"NOID" is such a disparaging term. These are beautiful orchids of mysterious origin. Irresistible!

The purple with spots is irrisistible! I'd have to have bought it too. Nice one there.

I had the notion that the spotted purple might be Bllra. Marfitch 'Howard's Dream', but when I checked a picture the lip was different.

The first one definitely reminds me of my Bllra Marfitch 'Howard's Dream' .... only green. Got to be some kind of relative, right? .... They're both great finds, no matter what the names.

And maybe instead of NoID's we should call them... amnesiac orchids?

Marfitch Howard was also my first thought and then I remember the Miltassias would fit better for shape.

I think you hit the nail on the head with some Charles M. Fitch background in there. And interestingly enough, the Bllra Marfitch Howard is actually Miltassia Charles M. Fitch x Oda. Fremar.

Those floofy side petals are pretty unusual though - no idea where they could come from!

They would have jumped into my basket too! I just adore Milts, and that one is particularly nice! Judi
