    Default yikes! $35 inspection fee

i was wondering if anyone else has run into this yet . i had placed an order for about 60 plants, a few days later the vendor called me back and informed me that it would cost an extra $35 to have the plants inspected when they reached our state (tn) was it the size of my order or are we all soon to be jacked up for this new fee. is this a usda thing or a state ag thing?? any info would be greatly appreciated.

Here, it's a state thing, but it's only $20.00, regardless of the size of the order, and it's only imposed when we ship to certain states. Of course, that makes the cost of sending a single plant to someone a little--ahem--outrageous....

    thanx louis,
i figured that you'd know being a vendor yourself. it just took me by surprise. not bad on a large order but like you said kinda cost prohibitive on smaller orders...

ahhh ha! That says it all..TN has cracked down on something (can't rem. if it's a bug or disease,)coming from Calif., that is devastating to trees....we had a speaker on pests, pesticides, etc for a society meeting that spoke on this. The pine bark beetle has really hurt our forests...we don't need another critter or disease!

Kentucky has also cracked down on it. I believe it is oak disease coming from California, their trees are infested with it. Not sure to what extent.
