Default Here comes the cold weather!

Well, I know our region gets the cold weather relatively late (heck we're almost the last to reach the New Year ).

Things are starting to really get chilly over here and its time to start with the usual "cold weather prep" in the garden:
    1. Check/replace poly sheets and bubblewraps that insulate the greenhouse.
    2. Move cold-sensitive plants into the GH.
    3. Move very delicate plants inside the house.
    4. Check GH structure itself to make sure there are no faults in the structure that could put it at risk in high winds.
    5. Calibrate the heater and the temperature controlled vents & windows to make sure that the vents do not open while the heater is on. Otherwise you end up trying to heat your entire town
    6. Clean/apply protectant on equipment that will not be used during the winter. Exhaust/intake fans are rarely activated in the winter so it is a good idea to service then with a protectant (WD-40, ArmorAll, etc). To prevent them from "sticking" or rusting during their dormant period. It is even a better idea to run them for a few minutes every few days just to make sure the mechanical parts stay clean.
    7. Empty the garden hose if you dont intend to use them during the winter. Frozen water in the garden hose is not a pleasant experience.

Feel free to add to this list. I'm sure I am still missing some good stuff from this list.

It was 2 F (-37 C) at 7:30 this morning. Must have been lower prior to the sun coming up. BRRRRRRRRRR
