    Default Water Temperature

Come On In, The Water Is Fine...
Some people at our last orchid society meeting were making somewhat of a big deal about the temperature of the water used to water their orchids. I am curious as to how all of you feel about this subject? Is 50 degees too cold and 80 degrees too warm and do you actually measure the temperature of your water before using it?????

umm... no scientific backing or anything but during winter, I do tend to try and use tepid water, ie mixing hot and cold water... I just figure I don't like cold water during winter so maybe the orchids won't either...

I agree, if it makes me shiver it's too cold for my chids.

It is actually true. We have a water heater in the GH to heat the water in the winter. Very Cold water, like very cold air can damage your plants. You should always water with room temperature water so that you do not cause damage or stunt developing growth.

I also use tepid to warm water and even warm for a couple orchids which I keep on a radiator (bellina and a spiking phal. ParishiiXLobbii)

I always use water from my aquarium when I perform my water changes. The temp is 78 degrees.
