Trichoglottis Philippinensis
Another, over my head one here that I will need help with. Again, if you would let me know if the pic of the flower is correct for this one, I'd really appreciate your help. I know nothing about the culture for these.
I've also included two other plants that came from the same guy. I hadn't been to visit in a very long time but he was his usual generous self. I couldn't believe I managed to bring home 3 dif. species! One gramatyphyllum, one trichoglottis and an equestris. The catt was one of the ones 'on my list' to buy. What a fun day!
On the left in this picture, is another newbie, B. Little Stars x Lc. Mem. Robert Strait 'Paradise' and on the outside of the package it said, Blc. Hawaii Stars. It has two flower buds developing nicely in spite of the condition that plant is in. I am suprised this one and the equestris is alive at all!
The last he called a Phal. Equestris 'Pixie'. I'm guessing this is slightly off, I'll get better pics of the flowers later.....This plant has two keikeis in bloom as well as a couple spikes of it's own in bloom. It looks awful, but I'm guessing it'll straighten up when I repot it.
Thanx for looking....

Oops, I think I need to start taking an extra B complex....geesh....it's not Equestris 'Pixie' it's Shilleriana 'Pixie'. Gosh, I'll get these names straight. The shilleriana part wasn't on the tag, he'd told me what it was and if I leave things to my memory, the ol' blond girl here is sure going to forget what it was temporarily. lol Sorry.....I'll do better next time....sigh

Wow -- what fun and exotic new additions to your collection. No culture help from me--I've only grown a schilleriana. But wow--you have great friends. Good luck.

You had a great day! I'm drooling over the Trich and can only imagine what a beauty Blc. Hawaii Stars will be. I'm in love with Mem. Robert Strait and B. Little Stars. Can't wait to see your blooms
Nice going, Connie!

Ok... firstly, the Trich. is Trichoglottis philippinense var. brachiata, a definite warm grower that requires slightly more shade than a Vanda, but needs the heat and humidity. I too grow Trich. phillipinense...
The other I recognise from your photos is Gram. scriptum, and I too have one of these along with speciosum. These suckers need lots of sun and heaps of heat and humidity to do well and flower well. I grow mine at work where our glasshouses are very hot and humid, can't give them enough heat at my place. They are very temperamental but can be easy if given a slight watering rest in winter, thus, cut back on the water and food at that time. In spring/ early summer when flowering you can then resume frequent watering and food. And one thing, they are hungry plants!!!
If you need to see a photo of the flowers on these Grams. let me know and I'll post a photo for you.
Any other help you may need just drop me a line.
Hope that helps and BTW, great purchases!
Cheers

Well, if the guy that gave you the Gramm. said it it is elegans, then I guess it is elegans... but since you did not mention that in your post I took a punt in guessing for you. He he he
Mind you, both plants out of flower look the same! when in flower though you will see the difference. Elegans has tan to light brown coloured floweres, whereas scriptum has yellow based flowers blotched in tan or dark yellow.
Both require same conditions.
I hope you do have elegans, they are quite stunning. Let me know when you flower it or have confirmation of the species you got, would love to see the flowers (and be a little jealous, can't get that one anywhere here!!)
Cheers

I totally lucked out...the guy has expanded his operations and had a ton of stuff looking sick and neglected that he was willing to part with for a song. My girlfriend thinks he's got a thing for me because he gives me amazing stuff sometimes for free. lol No I do not flirt either.

Reply to Oz....
Okay, now that I have had enough time to baby this new 'chid and feed it and give it lots of sun and lots of humidity and of course 90 degrees some days already.....and this is what it looks like right now. Cannot wait to see if it flowers for me. So far, no spike, but I'm prepared with 3 foot supports that are very strong....going to need to be for those long spikes!
And thanks again for the tips on care Oz....I think your advice has been the savior of this one!! And obviously you were Right On! The tag reads Gram Elegans....
