Has anyone ever grown masdies in coir or fine coco chunks? I don't like the spag even though its been the standard for them. I think it holds too much wetness. I'm going to try an experiment with the coir mixed with perlite and another in loose spag. Any input would be helpful. BYW I've also been told tree fern, but I've never seen it around here. Not exactly sure what it is.
I use treefern fiber for many species as well as treefern pots, poles and placks. If you would like a good source PM me and I will send you the link where I purchase mine.
For Massies...I use long fibered Sphag from New Zealand

I only grow one masdevallia and it was potted in a tiny bark mix, but now it is so root-bound, I am not sure there is any media left in its pot. It loves its conditions and blooms all the time, so I am leaving it alone.
Cheers,
BD
