    Question

9 feet tall You scare me.

I bought a Noriko Sumida 'Brandi Orchids' (simi terete) because I loved the color. I was unaware it was going to be so huge. When I bought it last Feb. it was already quite tall but it has grown a lot since then. I grow my vandas in my basement under Hid lights. If it gets much taller, it will need to go.. I hope it blooms at least once before it reaches that stage.

They use this as hedging at Singapore Botanic Gardens, and when the hedge needs atrim, they just stick the cut off pieces in the ground, snd they grow... i saw this when I first visited the gardens, very many years ago.I don’t think it would work here in UK ( joke )
The Miss Joaquim story is interesting too. There is argument as to whether she found this hybrid growing in her garden or actually made the hybrid herself. As to the latter, that was a very early date in the history of orchid hybridising, and some people doubt that she could have the knowledge.
And then others seemed to doub tthat she could have done it because she was a woman !
Attitudes to women have changed a lot in the intervening 100 plus years !

They do not like their growing area/media to dry out. Here where am they must have full sun to bloom.

That is beautiful. I have a couple semi-teretes (JVB x Dr Anek) in baskets growing in full sun. I bought it as a cutting xxx with no roots. Within a year it had quite a few roots and grew to approx 18". It bloomed within 2 years and then I cut the top off (w 3 roots) approx 1.5 yrs ago and repotted. The stump/host plant split into 2 fast growing plants that are approx 24". Neither the top cutting nor the host has bloomed yet. Hoping...
