wow they are not that forgiving huh, well this one its rootless at the moment but i think i see 2 roots coming and 2 new growth. Do you think putting it in a basket hanging would be good for it since it will dry out quick and not stay wet for a long time

I wish I could offer you some help...I have a psychopsis that lost its roots and I need some help myself. Maybe someone will give us both some advice.

    Raver,

I am no expert with papilios but I have one potted in fine tree fern fiber. I have grown these in phal type conditions and they seem to do grow well, although they can tolerate a variety of conditions...

Mine is getting 2500-3000 footcandle of light for 16 hours, humidity 50-65% and temperature is between 65-77 degrees

Psychopsis will not do well in a hanging basket. The spikes are delicate and need support. Plus, they can grow several feet in height. Mine thrives in cattleya type conditions, with good air flow, in a clay orchid pot in a medium of coir, fir bark, charcoal, and pearlite over a layer of lava rock.

We grew one that bloomed and bloomed for years and one day the last bloom dried up and the plant died. I need to get another one and try it again - I loved that plant.

    Cheers,

I grow mine - a kramerianum, actually- in charcoal with a layer of loose fern roots on top of the charcoal. I would have used bark but fern root is more easily available for me. My papillio died a few years ago. Yes psychopsis like sitting on a bench.

I have a small psy. mendenhall alba that is either getting another p. bulb started or is starting to spike. I just noticed something at the base of a large bulb and can't wait to see for sure what it is!

Bumping a very old thread to say that after another 2 years, it is finally spiked.
