That is the very, very famous Phalaenopsis (are you ready?)

    Phal NoID

You could make some guesses as to what it is, but if it didn't come with a tag you can never really say with certainty what it is. It's still pretty.

newbie, that could seriously be one of 50 different things, given all the hybridizing and genetic mutation. Until they get DNA testing down cheap enough, there's really going to be no way to tell for sure. Just grow the heck out of it, and enjoy it! Every orchid grower I know has a few NOIDs in their collections....

Some Brother lawerence crossed with Sister Juanita. I think that cross is now Inbred Jimbo. Sorry to poke fun but it could be anything but you can start with Brother Lawrence.

Newbie, I can only echo what Louis has said so well about the many possibilities for this Phal. It wouldn't surprise me, however, if it had some of the same breeding as Salu Spot, Chiayi Spot and Salu Princess. The possibility it *might* be related, however, still doesn't tell you what it is. Do like Louis & Kev say--enjoy your attractive Phal!

    Cheers,

    Rob

Boy, that shows what little I know about Phal hybrids. I've never heard of those before Rob.

Well, the only real reason I'm somewhat familiar with them is because I *supposedly* have Salu Princess and I've looked up its ancestry on the web. I have some photos of its parents, some of its offspring AND some siblings. I hesitate to post them here, since they are not photos I took and don't want to breach any copyright laws. Salu Spot, in particular, has been used quite often in crosses. They're all rather alike--yellow background with varying amounts of red spots. In other words, very much like the one in Newbie's photo!

BTW, the reason I say I supposedly have Salu Princess is because last year I bought some recently deflasked seedlings. They have yet to bloom and, for a variety of reasons that make me a little suspicious about the vendor, I'm taking the attitude "I'll believe what they are when I see it". One of the plants has been noticeably different from the get-go. It has a deep red flush to its leaves whereas none of the others have. It's also much slower growing. They're all growing together, so it's not cultural conditions.

    Cheers,

    Rob
