    Default cattleya odd growth

This is a seedling from a cross I made between Mini-Purple and Brabantiae.

It is growing one pseudbulb after another on the same lead. I've marked them with red dots. There is a new root growing out of the second one from the bottom--may actually be the one above it.

    Curious. Anyone seen this before?

I have seen similar things. I had a Catt. develop a Keiki. Not to fret, could be cultural but I would not suspect it to be genetic. If this is the only lead doing it, I would cut it off below the lowest red dot and wait for a dormant bud to begin anew, otherwise you may not get a viable new shoot in which to continue growth.

Yes I have seen this. I had a catt that was near death, the only pseudobulb that the plant had lost both the dormant buds, I thought the plant would surely die, but much to my surprise it developed a Keiki like the one in your pic. The Keiki further developed another keiki on the top, but that was the end of it. Later it developed normally.
