    Default Cycnoches loddigesii

Strange rather than beautiful, to my eyes. Has made a better bulb this year, in S/H than last years in the bark etc mixture which it came in - as can be seen. Flowered with two spikes - one of 6 and one of 2 at the same time in August , and then when I hung it up to dry off, until a new growth came, it produced this further spike of 3. Reasonably long-lasting , huge flowers - thats a 4 inch pot at the rim, making the flowers at least 6 inches high.
At the least it makes a good talking point in the greenhouse.
When the flowers go off, I'll hang it up again !

Both ( or maybe it's all) the C loddigesii are growing well, but not spiking yet ; however some of the others, e.g. one of my C.chlorochilon ( the swan orchid herself ! ) which last flowered in January has buds almost ready to open ; another two of the group of Catasetums, Clowesia, Cycnoches etc., are also in bud - they all, more or less, started off in growth from about March onwards, but half a dozen or so new ones, which came in from Brazil that month have not even started yet, or have growths only a few mm high.
It seems that some of hese are going to flower twice a year, and otherwise flkowers are going to be spread over a longer period than I once thought.
