    Default Brassavola acaulis sunburned?

    Hi, folks.
I recently adopted a mounted B acaulis. Lately it has become darker, taking on an eggplant hue. I have it in a southern patio window that gets lots of light. I haven't measured the FC yet, but during the summer (not now) there's enough light to burn my African violets. I'm afraid that I may have allowed it to get sunburned. However, I've also read that Brassavola's may get purple when they have the right amount of light. I've included some photos and I'd like to hear what you all think. I do also have several other orchids in the same spot including Oncidiums, Odontocidiums, Dendrobiums, and a Phal further away from the window.
    Thanks!

I dont think there is cause for alarm here... my Little Stars is getting full sun and no problems. Let wait for more experienced members to chime in.

I agree with Randy, I give my B. Little Stars full sun for part of the day, it gets a little purple but is doing fine, I wouldn't worry to much.

All of my plants from the Cattleya alliance do one of two things. Either they pale or they turn reddish. In both cases I let them get to that point because I have always felt that was right where they should be. It works for me. I think you not only have nothing to worry about, I think you are doing the correct thing.

No problem. I make sure all my Brassavola's get a nice red ting to them. Ensures good bloomings.

I would agree. Usually when an orchid foliage turns a purple or reddish color it is because the bloom has that color in it and the plant is getting enough sun. If you see spots, then you would have cause to worry as that would mean your orchid is burning. I look forward to seeing the blooms, Ken.

    Cheers,
    BD

Update. This guy seems to have recovered nicely. The purple declined a bit but is still there. He now has a new pseudobulb and stem. I just removed him from the stick and went au naturale on cork bark. I'm hoping for a flower soon.
