Default Cycnodes (Chlorochion x Jumbo puff) Repotting and care

    Hi there,
I purchased this Orchid this past year at the orchid show. I have not yet repotted it. It seems to be doing ok but since this is the first time I have this orchid I thought I might post and see what anyone else that knows about it think. There looks to be about 14 flowers that will bloom soon, the leaves, however, seem to be having a bit of trouble. They started twisting and I couldn't correct it no matter how I placed the plant towards the light and now they're turning in on themselves. I think that might be caused by it being a tad cold last night. When should I think about repotting this orchid?

Hi Stefanie, this orchid will loose all of its leaves and look dead this winter. Give it a winter rest. I don't think you should repot now. The medium looks fine from what I can see.

Nice purchase. It has not outgrown the pot yet, so you can leave it in the original pot, provided medium is not broken down. For cycnoches and catasetums, water and feed like no tomorrow during the active growth period to produce fat bulbs. Then they will produce a good show.

repot after the lead bulb attain full maturity and sheds of all the leaves. some prefer pulling out the entire plant with the media and let it sit in a bigger pot and then only repot after the new keiki is formed or subdivide into two plants before repotting. another option is begin division of plant after the lead bulb sheds all the leaves into two individual plant and begin planting it after keiki is formed with about 2 inches length of roots.
do post the pic of the bloom when it does.
