    Default Phals with blue coloring

    I have an odd question.
My husband was out doin some shopping with me and decided to surprise me with a new Phal.
    ( Yes he is a sweetheart! )
He bought one that was originally White, no problem right?
    Here is the trick...
The growers have been putting blue food coloring in the water and turned it Blue.
Is this going to hurt it, and should I keep using blue coloring?
I don't want to hurt the plant, it has a very LONG spike with 2 secondary spikes as well. It has very large flowers, with 18 on the primary spike and 5/6 on each secondary spike. The blue is what caught his eye of course.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

What a nice hubby you have Dee what a treasure for sure.....Myself i do not like seeing these poor phals being coloured...guess one day we will see real blue ones not fake lol....Your Q...for me i would not colour it any more and just let nature take over and let it revert back to its real state thats my thoughts any way.Im sure the phal will feel much happier to...

I agree. Do not add coloring any longer. I cannot see how it would hurt the plant, but to me, it is not so attractive - especially knowing that it is fake.

    cheers,

The blue coloring was not added to the water. The dye was injected into the flower stem close to where it joins the plant. There's a whole thread or so on this if you use the search.

    Very thoughtful of your hubby!

He has been stuck in the house for almost 2 weeks, I convinced him that if we went kinda later in the day it would be a bit slower. Amazingly it was.

Thanx everyone, I think I just needed to have my own thoughts voiced. NoID Phal will be white next time it blooms.
By the way the blooms are some of the LARGEST that I have ever seen! Too bad I don't have a camera to show you all, maybe next time.

There you are then - that's where you go next time... walk straight past the orchid shop , head for the camera shop. Easy-peasy !
p.s. They don't inject cameras with blue dye so far as I know !
