Default Den. Poh Kiew 'Oriental' ??..

..Thats what the tag said but I cant find any info or pics on it at all. I saved this poor thing from a home and garden store. Its in a four inch pot and the plant itself is about a foot and a half. It has no blooms and looks pretty sad. Ive never cared for dendrobiums before are there any experts out there who can give me a few tips? I just couldnt leave it there.

From googling without the "Oriental" i got this
    http://home.swbell.net/haroldot/Kiew.jpg
Dens like to be in small pots so don,t over pot it.
Medium bark will be fine , when in growth make sure it,s watered & fed regularly. When not in growth/bloom then water more lightly & stop the feed.
Looks like it,s an intermediate grower so shouldn,t need a cool/dry period to induce flowering.

Several months ago I bought 3 dens at a clearance sale at our local orchid store. All of the stuff on the clearance table was neglected, including my 3 dens.

I repotted (two in bark, one in S/H) and all three have flourished on my outdoor shelves. Two have just put out spikes. They get some early sun then live shade and maybe another hour of full sun right before the sun moves to the other side of the fence where the shelves are mounted.

I'm not an expert by a long-shot but my guess is yours will be just fine with repotting and regular care.

I once rescued a den but it wasn't in too bad shape except it had no signs of new growths and only two canes in leaf. I put it near the windowsill, getting some morning sun for a few weeks and then moved it to afternoon sun (longer period of light). Of course I did the regular stuff--feeding, watering, etc, and it put out two new growths and now two new spikes.

I think dens are pretty tough and yours will do well with good care...plus it should be happy and grateful that it's rescued.
