Hey, it took me 5 years to understand what a Phal. wants. They're not so easy for some people. I think it's awesome that some of the more temperamental varieties of orchids do well for you so far, as they usually are more exotic and beautiful looking than the same old Phal. you see over and over again in every grocery store. (No offense to any Phal. lovers!)

As far as breeding and hybridizing your own orchids...it's a long, long journey and takes quite a level of skill. I haven't done it myself, but I don't really have any desire to at this time. I'm not sure if you're aware, but orchid seeds need a specific symbiotic fungus to germinate and without it they won't do anything. You typically have to put them in a sealed off, sterile environment (a glass flask with agar, sealed at the top). And orchid seedlings generally take 4+ years to reach a flowering size...the trouble isn't worth it for myself, personally, but many people find great joy in it. Hopefully someone with more knowledge could chime and help you out more if you really want to go for it!

Phal is what I picked up because thats what EVERY forum and google site said. This of course was after I decided I loved orchids, and was just doing homework on then. I am so inclined to agree with you now.....if I see a Phal that I would love for the next 20 years abacreias of today, i buy it but now i find i enjoy more the more exotic orchids.

Thank you for the info on the flasking, I always though that it was ridiculous that a PLANT needs to grow in a lab and that if in the tropics what is full of bacteria whats with all the sterilization? It makes sense now. I think ill stick with bringing them back once dormancy occurs.

How would you handle this hybrid I have once the blooms fall? i know you must cut the stock but is there a specific way i should to make a better chance for rebloom???
