So cool! You know, I think I've been way more intimidated by this whole "mounting" thing than I need to be. I'm looking at your pics and your Vandas are happily sitting in big plastic baskets. I was thinking I had to buy special Vanda mounts or specific basket types...or maybe build custom baskets out of Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs...

But I'm pretty sure I can get plastic baskets like that at any general store...for cheap, too. They sell them during the summer for people to put picnic foods in...I could probably just stick my Vandas in those instead of messing around with clay pellets and lava rock and coarse bark and perlite, etc, etc. My biggest issue is hanging them...my hubby draws the line at hanging orchids from the ceiling..and that's ok, considering he doesn't like "clutter," and to him, orchids are just more "stuff" in the house (non-orchid people just don't understand).

I'm just trying to figure out how I would manage the roots if they started coming through the slats...if they're not hanging, where would they go? Hmmm.... something to think about! Thanks for posting these pics! I'm quite encouraged by them!

Their roots are sensitive that any slight movements can break or damage the root system, so tender loving care is needed when in comes to vanda orchids. i prefer to use plastic baskets with large holes so that the roots can anchor well and it could also promote ventilation on the part of the plant..i also placed a single layer of black screen above to protect them from intense heat..hope i can see ur orchids and we can share new ideas about this magnificent plants..tc

I'm not so sure about the tender loving care on the roots. If you saw how I man-handle mine. They seldom break on me. Vanda roots are very resilient
    You've done a great job with them...bravo.
