I was going to say what Stateless said- drown the plant in a bucket for a bit. Afterwards, maybe plug around the pbulbs with some of that bait gel?

I.'m in what is called The Peak District, and the. Hotel has the. Slow est Wi-fi in the world, but I can still read my mail.First walking day is today, and I think it is only a gentle 10 miles to get us warmed up...
Schombo's - get sprayed with just rain water daily in summer, less often in winter, and dipped in my ordinary fret' mix used for everything, once every 2 weeks or so.
Sorry about the typos - it takes for ever to try and correct ct them, and this stupid feature on the iPad, where it helpfully puts in what I do not intend, does not help. E.g. I had to have three goes to get schomb's refusing schoolboys and Schoenberg... If I don't happen to notice my messages must either be hilarious or nonsense.

so something that happen to me.....

I cut three spent pb's from one of my schombos and just laid them one the deck. I notice that some fire ants had taken up residents in one of the PB's. I moved the 3 bulbs and discovered a growth on one of the rhyzomes. It was my understanding the the PB would not produce any new growth but this one has. Don't know if the ants had any affect or not on the new growth. Probably a long shot but you never know! ;-)

Ha,ha. You are are hilarious, Geoff (with your typos, no spellcheck??). Be careful you don't get muscles on muscles in your calves. 10 miles is a bit much for me.
one question.... the fret mix, is this a tonic or fertilizer mix. For how long do you leave the Schom. there .

that plant is quite healthy. The Psbs. of Schom. do have a yellow colouring. Did you notice that the leaves were quite a nice green?

Fret = fert or fertiliser, of course.(have now managed to turn off the predictive feature, so the only excuse for typos is fingers too big for the keys + my negligence ).
No question of "leaving them there" ,its just a dunk, then drain. As to what it is - I use a mix developed by one of the US uniiversities - Massachusetts (?) which from memory is something like 11-4-15 plus added Ca (I use CaNO3 ) and added Mg (i use Epsom salts aka MgSO4) because rain water has no calcium or magnesium in it, whereas all ground water does. This is mixed up and diluted to an appropriate EC and pH. This is high for heavy feeders in active growth, and lower for other things. For resting plants not doing anything, which just need a little to prevent them drying out too much, just plain rain is fine.
It is my opnion that if only there were 25 (available for work) hours in every day, I would water each plant with a different mix, but in real life I often take the short cut of using the same mix for everything, in which case EC = 500 and pH = 6.20

Oh the legs are just fine, although the spirits are a bit down today, in view of the weather forecast- which is for rain,rain,rain...I don't mind putting my waterproofs on and finishing the walk when it rains, but I do dislike starting out in it. And some of the steep slopes on limestone hills here can be positively dangerous when wet. So all in all, I think I will be heading home tomorrow - my orchids need me too.
