    Default Den. mannii culture tips???

Well, here I go again....another plant I can't find any culture info for...not even on Jay's site. Sigh. Anybody else growing this one? Any little tricks or tips? This looks more like a cactus than a dendrobium so I'm kinda clueless.

    Thanks!
    Maggie

I did a search on nigrahirsute ( hairy) Dendrobiums . Wonder if the name has been changed ? Lots of hits and some with pictures , might find it on one of those sites . G

Gin, thanks...although this one isn't "hairy", I'll try that.

    LJA, I sure hope so!

Well, I don't grow this one. However, one of my great Dendrobium books says the following of the plant:-

An Indian/South East Asian species of about 1000-2300 feet altitude... with extremes of 98F - 35F. Summer average temps of 84F and winter nights at 45F when the plants tend to rest.

    Light: 2500-3500fc

Humidity around 80% but dropping to 65 in winter.

During winter while water should be greatly reduced and plants should be allowed to dry out between watering they should not remain dry for extended periods. Misting during bright sunny days will help prevent plants from becoming too dry.

Flowering of cultivated plants may happen any time of the year.

And finally I've seen this at one of the Species meeting and the leaves are like wickerwork, and hence one of the reasons ppl grow them as I found the flowers themselves to be relatively small.

    Good luck with the plant.

    cheers

Wow, Tim, thanks so much for all the great information! You nailed the foliage description very well...wickerwork! Neat looking plant, which is what took my eye from the start. It appears to put out keikis all the time, too. I'm saving all this good information...thanks again, you're a lifesaver!
