    Default Psychopsis Orchids

Hello to all, Hope you had a good day.

What I find amazing is we don't find easily now the four species of Psychopsis in sale. Ten years ago, we found yet them but I am looking for to get at least one of each species and it is very hard. Don't know if it is only specify to Europe or it is general through the world.
I have the feeling there is a "fashion" period during the one we find easily some species and strangely not easily after.
Finally I succeeded to find on UK very young plants of Psychopsis kramerianum. Waiting for them now.
We find mainly now hybrids of Psychopsis. Dommage.

They are great orchids. Don't forget to add the alba of papilio to your list. I see papilio frequently and hybrids but the others are not seen as often for sale.

I like how the flower solely positioned very high from the plant with it's thin spike. Truly closely related to a butterfly. I first saw the flower of it in Ernst Haeckel "Kunstformen der Natur" orchid painting while browsing the orchid article in Wikipedia. I thought it is a kind of Cattleya orchid but it's not, still it is native to Latin America.

i've only seen a few papilio for sale. i've never seen an alba in person. the normal color looks better i think, more colorful. these are some type of 'mule ear oncidium' that i hear about, but almost never really see, except on the internet every now and then. i hear they are very slow growing, and difficult to flower. the mule ears have gone through phases of being more commonly available, but not much lately. some seedlings offered on the internet, but not much else.
