    Default Rossioglossum grande arrived

I received a Rossioglossum grande just over a week ago, looks really healthy. The new growth has doubled in size in that time. I've been fussing over it, I have it in a small west window with a CFL light above it, I put a cool mist humidifier on at night, I've even been playing some Mariachi music on in the background to make it feel at home 😀
Any tips about resting this species.

    Wendell- Nice buy!
    Check out this info.

    IOSPE PHOTOS

You need to check this site for species info first, always!!!! It is one heck of a great resource. Learn the symbols Jay adds to most species listings.

BTW- I grew up, very friendly with a Wendell. We started Kindergarten together and graduated High School together. He even worked in my dad's drug store with us.

Wendell, that's too funny about the music!! But seriously, has any research been done about whether playing music or talking to the orchids has any benefit? (I'm laughing about you playing music for yours but I talk to mine, but mostly cursing ). Really though, I don't always curse - sometimes if I knock one over, I say, "Jeez, so sorry, what the heck am I doing?" I guess that's another thread though (playing music for plants, talking to them, burning incense etc.)

Thanks Terp, I regularly check the Isope site out it's excellent, when I asked for tips I mean growers personal experience who have this orchid. Wendell is my nickname I like it. I don't know anyone personally who grows orchids, it's great to be able to share with like minded growers like yourself. 👍😀

😂😂😂 Wildcat, that's an interesting point you make, there has been some research that plants respond positively to classical musical, I was reading something the other week that plants may recognise there owner either through vibrations, shadow profile or CO2/oxygen emissions, I'm not so sure, a lot more research needs to be done. Theres so much we don't know about the plant kingdom.
Thanks Kumar for your kind words

    I talk to mine.

I encourage the slow ones and praise the active ones.

I also regularly ask them "Is there anything you want I am not providing?"
So far, no one seems to want more, no one has spoken up!

78Terp, perhaps it's the cursing that may be holding up their progress. Your technique could be more effective, using positive affirmation rather then negativity (instead of saying "what's the matter with you? can't you get going?" Sometimes I even threaten them with expulsion or tell them I will withhold certain items until they shape up.... can you imagine that? What an evil person I am! I should say, "I understand....there's been many cloudy days but things will be looking up...it's not going to be like this EVERY day! That's okay, take your time." HOW DOES THAT SOUND?

Positive energy always beats negative, IMO.

The one I got in terrible shape from the seller took 7 months to start growing a new leaf. I would regularly say to it "You have my permission to grow a leaf!" Eventually, it did. Now, I am asking it for another! But the first one is still immature.

The meanest I get with them is a sort of tease:
When I see the newly grown and exposed pb for the first time, it hears "I see your pseudo bulb, I see your pseudo bulb!".

They will tell you what they need, but you have to see what they say. They curse at you by getting root rot and they complain about humidity when they shrivel and they whine for water in the same way. They scream when they get burned and they say "thank you" with flowers.
