Default Dendrobium - Keiki growing at an odd place?

Hi everyone! This is my Den Sun Chuli. A few days ago, I thought it was spiking again. However, to my surprise, it is a keiki growing from the top of the cane where usually flower spikes appear! This is my first time encountering something like this. Many of my Dendrobiums have keikis growing from the side of the cane but not at the top of a new cane. Anyone of you experienced something like this before? Thanks! Happy growing!

One of mine removed earlier in the year (see picture below) that has done very well since removal was above the highest leaf on the cane..

Both of these came from a den Oriental Smile. The roots have started to grow from under the bark, up and out of the pot. I take this as a good sign for these keiki's. No scale (not the bugs) to the image but the pot is a 2 inch round pot.

Harvey, mine is the curly petal type of Dendrobium, name: Sun Chuli. When the sun hits the blooms, it gives out a spicy fragrance, smells something like basil. Will post a pic later.

I have to know... What the hell is a Duracell doing in that pot?

And yes my dendrobium Kingianum also does this Keiki thing. I love it. It's great for gifts.
