Encyclia Cochleata, I believe has been renamed to Prosthechea Cochleata. I have had this plant for about two months. I noticed about a week or two ago there was something growing between the leaves above the currently maturing pseudobulb. At first I had thought it was a spike, but a week later, it didn't grow longer, instead I think it widen a little bit.
I have read somewhere that the back bulb can produce a keiki/new growth on top of an old pseudobulb (Don't know if that is even true), however this is a new growth starting to mature. Anyone have any ideas if this is even a spike?
Should be a spike. A new growth will come from the base of the one starting to spike now most likely.
spike!!. congrats . looking fwd for the blooms
I decided to take a look at it again since it's said to be a spike. Figured the sheath was restricting it from going upward so I helped it a little. Now it does look like a spike! Thanks everyone!
Lovely. This is one that's on my wish list.
