Ok, so maybe it isn't a Vanda. I brought the orchid outside today, to give it some sun...lovely hanging outside my door really. Sprayed the roots and wiped the frime off of the tag without smudging the print. Hybrid Mokara Orchid. What is this? Now, I'm not going to toss it away...looks like a decorative Vanda, but the tag says otherwise.

    Aaron,

Mokara's are a man-made trigeneric genus made up of Arachnis, Ascocentrum, and Vanda. It was first 'conceived' in Singapore in 1969.

Should be a fairly colourful and spectacular flower... bright yellow, or bright reds, or bright blue...

looking forward to seeing yours in bloom.

    cheers

Julie - you are too funny.

We see loads of these here in South Florida - they do well here under general vanda conditions. They are usually quite lovely so I look forward to seeing your blooms!

Ah, I tease...but I know that Aaron is in touch with his inner-orchid, and that if anyone can grow a Vandaceous beauty in Cow Hampshire, he can. Even if he has to Shanghai space in the greenhouse he now works in!

Jumping in where I'm not invited to point out that , well, Cow Hampshire could be considered preferable to Taxachusetts.... but, I guess it's debatable... :action-sm I'm sorry but I just had to try out that tacky emoticon... it's a bit much LOL!!!!

    Kirstie,

Neither one is good Vanda territory, so take all the 'potty' shots you want!

Massahampshire (n): A mythical state that has decent school systems and reasonable taxes.
