Very nice thoughts, Julie.
Well, your nana was quite nuts about orchids! Grow racks with lights everywhere! Oh dear! I guess she did not do anything halfway, eh? I was surprised that there was no orchid in the bathroom. I wonder if she knew bathroom is probably one of the better spots in the house for orchids? Just imagine all of the moisture and humidity, and the warmth from the hot showers! A friend of mine keeps his phal in the bathroom. The plant does extremely well. I also heard people who don't have greenhouses keep their vandas in the bathrooms as long as there is enough light in there.
Cheers. Hoa.

Hi Julie,
The project is beyond me but I am definitely here for moral support. A really beautiful story.
Any stories involving MOMS and GRANDMOTHERS are GREAT, but when paired with ORCHIDS, it elevates to another level.

The Daybreak clone came yesterday from Alan. Thanks Diane!
Oh boy, he was right. It is the worst plant I have ever seen from him! The plant looks dessicated, full of scales and other critters. I had to spend this morning to give the plant its first insecticide bath and left it outside so it won't infest my collection! The cool nights also tend to kill off these warmth-loving nasties! I will clean the plant again this weekend, repot it and post a picture then. The picture of the plant after the first insecticide bath is below.
From the look of the plant, I am not so sure we should let it bloom out this year. The plant is also small in stature so I assume Blc. Memoria Gladys Young is not really a standard catt?
Cheers. Hoa.

Whoa - it doesn't look too happy, does it...
If it's a sensible plant, it will realize and appreciate its change in fortune soon! I think you're right though Hoa, it should get healthy before we burden it with blooming, and even moreso with pregnancy. Orchid breeding isn't a speedy process, so what's one more season for a long-term project like this...
Thanks so much to both you and Diane!

Special!
Julie,
How special that you had such a wonderful grandmother! What a fitting tribute to her!
Heck, we might ALL have to buy some seedlings from you! Wouldn't it be cool if we could all post our Gladys Youngs and compare notes!?!?!?!?!!!

Thanks, Clint!
We're way ahead of ourselves on this one...many steps yet to go!
But if all does go well, seedlings would be no cost to forum members. My dream is to name the first that might be awardable. So if everything that has to happen does (and that's a long shot at this point), that would be my only request.
Thanks for the thoughts!
Julie

I glad it finally arrived, and actually, after chatting so much with Alan, I think it looks better than I expected! I am confident the most honorable sir speedo will nurse it back to health. When ready, the orchid sex will begin! Something for us to look forward to next year!
