Default Phal 2nd spike has a root?

I bought a 2 spiked Phal the other day.... Sad I didn't realize the spike was broken almost off.... I couldn't figure out why the flowers / buds were wilting on it... ANYWAY, it has a small configuration of leaves a bit up the spike. And right at the leaves, there is a little root coming out....
What do I do? Can it be another plant?? Oh that would be cool!
I have to rush out the door but if you need pics, I can work on that in a bit...
    Thanks all!

You have a keiki the start of another plant , like the mother plant , leave it on the stem until it has roots about 3 inches long or more then it can be removed and potted up the longer you can leave it the faster it will grow . Gin

a word of caution--keikis sap a tremendous amount of energy from the parent plant. if that plant is very healthy with good roots, you can leave the keikis on longer as they will grow very quickly while left on. if the parent plant is not in tiptop shape, you should probably remove the keiki after it has a couple of short roots.

Thank you for that bit of info as well!
I picked the plant up at a grocery store for a song and a dance and it seems well enough.... I'll let it grow a while and see what happens. It's a good plant to learn with. I want and expect it to live tho!!!
