OK...as none of you has spotted the cuckoo in the nest, I'll out myself. I was havin' a little fun with you-all.

When I arrived here in Nov, the blasted catts had bloomed without me--never had that happen before. But for some reason, the plants I had dumped under the palm trees for the summer were surrounded by finished flowers, except for Grand Dragons just ending (and Aloha Spirit, which bloomed in Feb).

In a fit of pique, and feeling sadly flowerless, I spotted a silk spray of luridly purple phals in the big box that shall remain nameless. I usually mock those things you see in the dentist's office...their petals are always the wrong size, and the Chinese workers who assemble them have no concept of direction so the flowers are usually upside-down. This one was at least plausible from 10 feet...actually, from 5 feet. All the blossoms were at least right-side-up! I bought it, figuring I could stick it out on the lanai in one of the (many) yet-to-flower phals in that dead season until the phals spike in January/Feb. On the way to the cashier, another orchid lover remarked how real it looked, and where could she find one?

It still resides next to its real white sisters...just wondered if anyone would call me out on it. lol

Love the display. Watch out for the sun though, it could burn the leaves.

Azizan, we have a screened lanai, which cuts out 40 percent of the damaging rays...and they only get morning sun. I don't like to get full sun on the blossoms, though...it seems to age them prematurely. Hope these will still be blooming all spring!

Ha ha. I guess the purple one will last many springs.
