Question Maxillaria sophronitis - mini orchid

I have bought this mini orchid which is blooming size. I have looked it up to see what the culture is but, I am a bit confused because of the two differant orchids involved. I can find Sophronitis but not Maxillaria. Do I use the culture of Sophronitis?? Thanks so much

use the Maxillaria culture as that is the family that it is in . If there is nothing under useful links then do a google.

Thanks Murry, there is a lot of info on the Maxillaria in my book. I will use that then.

Hello there. I too have one of these wonderful orchids, though they can be a tough one to flower well... I find mine grows well mounted on tree fern and hung high in the greenhouse, BUT...it is in a cool spot due to the slant of the roof and the foggers and high air movement from the fan in front of the foggers which deflect upwards onto the orchid itself. What I am trying to say simply is, it needs very bright light but cool temperatures. A very hard thing to re-create in a greenhouse. They are also humidity loving plants and as such you have to position carefully, they hate being dry and also abhor being soaking wet. So as you can see, they are a challenge but well worth it when they flower. I will post a photo when mine flowers again, they are very cute.
Hope this helps, if you may have any questions please feel free to drop me a line.
Cheers

The sophronitis part is the species name and what you are finding on culture is Sophronitis a genera name. It is a cloud forest species so warm days, cool nights, constant moisture, bright but not full sun. It blooms in the fall and early winter.
