    Default Culture for Dendrobium atroviolaceum v. compactum

    hi All
    I just got this sweet little plant Dendrobium atroviolaceum v. compactum
    if I am right is is a New Guinea type Den.
    now do the New Guinea Type need the cool dry rest like that of the Nobile type?
    I have added 4 of the New Guinea Type Den to my collection this spring and summer

    Yes, it's a New Guinea species. And yes, they do need a cool dry rest for the winter, even more so than the antelope types. See this link for Den. references. http://www.sdorchids.com/aos_dend.htm

    Ok Ok Im here.

    No I wasnt getting drunk on my birthday,didnt even have a wine but did have a whine about other things.

    I have not attempted this Dendrob since I first started and knew nothingk,but here a link that may help.

    Den atroviolaceum is a warm growing species.Best grown with year round water and fertilizer.I grow a few of the compact types.They bloom better than the regular lanky atroviolaceum.Seem to do best if temps are kept above 60 degrees.
