I'm pretty sure that would gain me NO points with my husband. Although I do have an extra bathroom with a big long shower.....
Seriously, thanks Julie...you have probably brought me to my senses. Maybe someday if I live on a property with room for a greenhouse I can try some vandas.
I was reading my Orchids for dummies book last night and saw a couple more phals I need (don't have book here at work and don't remember, but one is supposed to smell like lillies of the valley....my favorite!). So, I'll treat myself to a couple of those and will cure my vanda woes!
Thanks to all who have tossed in their 2 cents!
i have 2 vandas. they are 1-v.rasri gold am; 2-v.rasri gold x/v.sanderiana bhimayothin. i am trying to find some info and pics of these and to no avail. any info/pics would be great. i have had the v.rasri gold am-approx. a year--when i got it, it was in horrible shape and got worse when i hung it over my fish tank(for humidity); but i think it was due to too much/too hot light from window. i then placed it all spring, summer, and early fall, hanging on a branch of my crepe myrtle. It has since grown wonderfully with lots of new healthy roots and now a huge swelling bud about to open any day now. since it has never bloomed before, i don't know its color; but can only assume from it's name that it has a gold color. my other vanda v.rasri gold x--has always been healthy with several small seedling plants at it's base. i also treated this the same and it has grown wonderfully with lots of new root growth and leaves; but no flowers yet. i don't water as often now that they are indoors (hanging in east facing windows); but i do dunk them occasionally and every other watering is with orchid fertilizer. They seem to be doing okay but they have only been indoors for a short time this cooler season. I would love any info on them and/or pics. thanks in advance. mandi
