Pink arial roots?

    Default Pink arial roots?

    Some of the roots on my Onc splendidum turned pink. Is it from cold water?

    I have never heard of them turning pink,unless red dye had been put in the water

    I had asked this question before and had gotten no answer. So I'll ask it here now that the subject is up. My Phal who had mites, when I repotted it, it had some PINK roots also. Why?????

    If they are newer root tips the color could be pigments; with the plant feeling better it could be producing more pigments.

    Default Pinkish Roots...

    I hear roots also produce the purplish-red pigment, anthocyanin that the leaves produce in response to reaching their light threshold. If the plant is otherwise healthy, I'd say this was just a normal response.

    Does the plant have red or purple blooms? If so the pink is likely a response to maximum light, as clint suggested.

    No, no, no. These are healthy white roots, and only appeared in this spot where it got water, and only where it got water. Its an Onc splendidum so no pink. When the velamen opens up to photosythesize, it turns green, but also another shade of pink.
