How is this plant doing, I wonder? Also, I noticed she has a bit of aluminum foil or some shiny something-or-other under the new growths- is this something that we should be doing? Does light on the new growths help?

    Thanks!

Well nothing has really happend since the last pictures were taken.. I'm beginning to think that all the plant's energy was put into those growths and it forgot to put out roots in the process - No I think I was a bit to heavy on the misting part when I started out. That probably made the plant think it got sufficient water and therefore it sent out growths instead of roots.. But I'm no expert.
The foil was just to elevate the plant to keep some of the growths out of the medium.

At the moment it has been transferred to my newly build vivarium where the humidity is at 80%, I'm holding off water and hoping to see roots soon I'll post pics if it works - otherwise you may assume the worst

Hopefully the roots will come! With that kind of humidity, it should help!

    Best of luck.

    Christian,

Your pseudobulbs are very shrunken. The plant wants more moisture, and it has no reserves. I wouldn't be trying to stimulate root growth through drying it out. I'd give it long soaks every 4 or 5 days.

Don't tell it what it needs, as much as give it the obvious need and let it sort out what to grow when. It may be trying to put its energy in to new growths, and since there's not enough moisture to go around, it's holding up on the roots. Give it sufficient moisture and you might get both.

    Just a thought.

I have to agree with Julie.
if you want to take a risk the guy can be set into water...it's worked for me to get roots while keeping it hydrated. Just remember to take it out of the water when you see the roots or you risk the plant

Thank you all for your concerns I actually started out by giving it plenty of water through misting about once a day, and by the looks of all those growths I thought it was going in the right direction, but suddenly it just stoped growing and bit of new root growth started. I thought that I should probably hold back the watering for a little while so the new tiny roots wouldn't get soaked all the time, but it just stoped growing completely at that point, and the tips of the new growths started drying/browning a bit. Maybe it didn't get enough light through the winter? I just had it in my windowsill.. Btw. it only has one leaf left now - I'm beginning to think it's a goner
