Default Another mislabeled plant perhaps?

I bought what I believe is a miltonia which will bloom purple. It certainly looks like a miltonia but when I got home and tried to find info on the name on the label I could find absolutely nothing. I e-mailed the seller and his response wasn't helpful at all. I can't quite read the first part of the label but it looks like Lakikea. The name on the plant is 'purple leopard' x natal. I am fairly sure this label has nothing to do with the plant I bought. If anyone can throw any light on this I will appreciate it. I am concluding that even with a label you often don't get what you think you are buying. I find the whole naming process very confusing in spite of reading a lot to try and educate myself.

I do think the plant is a miltonia I'm just not sure if it is going to look like the picture I was shown at the nursery. They showed me a picture of a purple spotted flower which was very attractive to me(the seller pulled the pic from the internet). It's not currently flowering. However, when I later e-mailed the seller he did not send me the link and no amount of searching has produced any further info.I am glad to hear natal is a miltonia I will look into that further. The seller did say he would refund my money if the plant is not to my satisfaction. However, I won't know that until it flowers which may be another year!!!!

Let's take the tag apart a little at a time. There's usually truth there, but it's often buried in mislabeling.

Milt Natal is Miltonia Natal, which is Milt Bluntii x Milt Purple Queen. That sounds like one of your parents.

The other parent is a bit trickier. If we work with just Milts, you've Milt Lake Ida and Milt Lakelight as possible parents. Neither have been awarded, so there are no AOS registered cultivar names which I suspect 'Purple Leopard' is.

If we expand the search to anything in the Onc alliance, we then have:

Odm. Lakiniae
Oda. Lakonia

Again, there are no awarded cultivar names. Check your tag and see if either of those are close.

You might find this thread helpful on deciphering names, although screwed up tags are still wickedly confusing!
