    Default Tolumnia advice

MoBot is having their annual orchid show right now, and my hands couldn't help but to pick up a small tolumnia pulchella hybrid the other day. It was in with the young orchids, but I think it is probably about full size.

I always repot into clay--plastic is just bad, bad, bad. It is very loosely potted in a good charcoal/foam mixture, so it has plenty of air circulation. I mist it and have it on a tray to keep the humidity levels over 50%. Sadly, I do live in an apartment with, of course, no east-facing windows, but I have the luxury of two very large south-facing windows.

Anyone have any experience with my dainty little orchid? Any advice to offer? Mishaps I can learn from?

I grow mine by the south window. Tolumnia needs a lot of light, same level as catt and dens. Small 2" or 3" clay pot is good for them since they tend to get rot.

I have one that I rotted the roots off of twice and saved twice. It is now mounted and it is the only way I can keep it alive. Good luck with yours

    Thanks, everyone.

I'm thinking about treating it similar to a vanda--sans compost--for that very reason. I know technically it's part of the oncids, but at first, I thought it was a vanda.

    Thanks for the tip!
