I don't know if it helps, but on the RHS website, there are 3 plants listed in the cattleya alliance with the name goldmine:
Brassolaeliocattleya Goldmine
Brassolaeliocattleya Netrasiri Goldmine
Sophrolaeliocattleya Jiara Goldmine
To be honest, I wouldn't know how a Blc is likely to differ from an Slc, so someone else might be able to tell you which is more likely, but it's worth checking these out to see if they look like your plant. I know it's nice to have an idea of what your plant might be, even if you don't know for sure.
I am having much the same trouble with one of my catts as you have had with yours, so I have been keeping an eye on posts like this. Hope the catt recovers (and I hope mine do too!)

Sorry to jump in here on a little tangent, but...
Regarding those purple spots you mentioned - are there any other orchids that have a similar way of showing "I'm happy"? (I have a miltonia with a purplish marking at the top of a couple pseudobulbs)

Yes. Another way is the production of orchid honeydew. In the absence of pests, an orchid that produces honeydew is considered "happy".

That's interesting to know, I was a little concerned that my spiking phal was showing rather a lot of honeydew and that maybe it was a bad thing for the plant. Feel reassured now.

I FOUND IT!!!
On a whim, I went into storage and dug thru my bag of old plastic pots (I had a thing of radish seeds in there, too?) and... I FOUND THE TAG!!!
I wasn't far off. Its Slc. Mine Gold 'Corona' AM/AOS (L. briegeri x Jewel Box).
I knew I remembered Jewel Box! *1-armed happy dance*

And I believed you! My mom tried to tell me it was a Bc. Silly moms.
Oh! And I convinced her to buy a few orchids to try her hand again while I was up there. She now has 3! (Blc?) Momilani Rainbow 'The Gypsy' in a 6" pot with 3 bud sheaths, Otaara Jane with a sheath just starting and a Phal Kazaam in bloom.

The only thing I have in bloom right now is my new phal I bought at the grocery store this past weekend. I have 2 catt hybrids that probably won't bloom till at least fall and 4 newbies on the way from online orders - which I won't get till after I get back on the 26th from my best friend's wedding back in Michigan! I'm excited to see them (plants and friends)! One orchid was a growers choice vini paph in a 2.5" pot!
But anyway... here's my pretty lil phal! I'm not exactly sure what she is because she had 2 different label stakes. One said "wedding promenade" and I can't recall the other... But she just opened another bud late last night and it was half-open this morning!

I note that the Phalaenopsis is in a clay pot and it has always been my understanding that they should be in clear pots. The roots like plenty of light (although heavily shaded) and fresh air ciculating around them. I have also read somewhere that Phallie roots need a fungus to grow strong and the lack of light kills the roots. Unfortunately the clear pots look ugly.
It,s a very pretty plant whatever it,s called and I wouldn,t want to lose it if it were mine.
This is my first reply to anyone as I have only just joined the forum.
Best of luck,
Mike Amies
